In 2025, Addicta: The Turkish Journal on Addictions, a quarterly publication of the Green Crescent Society of Türkiye, will dedicate a special issue to the topic of "Behavioural Addictions."

As a peer-reviewed academic journal, Addicta focuses on advancing knowledge and fostering interdisciplinary discussions on addiction-related issues. The journal serves as a platform for research and policy analysis aimed at addressing addiction, with the goal of informing evidence-based strategies and promoting innovative approaches. Published studies are expected to contribute original insights that benefit both practitioners and policymakers in the field of addiction.

Addicta welcomes submissions in diverse disciplines such as public health, psychiatry, sociology, criminology, psychology, law, education, and beyond. The journal publishes original research articles, policy reviews, case studies, clinical reports, and book reviews.

The upcoming special issue will focus on behavioural addictions, which include conditions such as gambling disorder, gaming disorder, problematic social media use, problematic pornography use, compulsive sexual behaviour disorder, compulsive buying-shopping behaviour, problematic internet use, work addiction, and other areas. These behaviours, while distinct from substance-related disorders, share commonalities in their impact on mental health, relationships, and societal well-being. With the rising prevalence of these issues globally, research into their causes, consequences, and interventions is crucial.

This issue aims to examine the growing challenges associated with behavioural addictions, from their neurobiological and psychological foundations to their social and economic implications. Articles may explore preventative measures, innovative therapies, and cross-cultural perspectives on the topic.

Submissions are encouraged on the following themes (but are not limited to):

  • Understanding Behavioural Addictions:
